SB Security Ride Along
Ever wondered what a day in the life of an Armed response officer entails? At SB Security, we encourage our team members to familiarize themselves with each facet of our business in order to fully appreciate the roles and responsibilities of each team member. This was exhibited when one of our marketers volunteered to participate in a Ride along with one of our senior operations managers for a day.
In this article, the marketer will share their experience and the events that they encountered on the Ride Along.
“The day had finally arrived, and I have jittery nerves about the ride along, as most people would have. I’m excited but at the same time I’m aware of the endangerment associated with being a first responder.
Luckily, my nerves are quelled once I arrive at the SB Security head office in Randpark Ridge. The SB Security team was welcoming and in high spirits after their successful joint operation with SAPS, JMPD and Home affairs to clean up a local greenbelt containing vagrants in the Honeydew area.
The day commences with a tactical armed response meeting. Discussed in the meeting are the current crime trends and crime prevention operations to ensure the safety of our communities.
I’m then partnered with Raymon, a Senior Operations Manager with an extensive background in home security. He will be my partner in crime prevention for the day.
Within the first five minutes of our ride along we are radioed in as a home alarm is triggered. The fear of the unknown has me at the edge of my seat. We swiftly arrive at our destination and Raymon conducts a patrol of the perimeter to investigate any suspicious activity. Fortunately, there are no intruders, and it is a false alarm.
Next on the agenda, we visit a few sites that are safeguarded by SB Security. The purpose of these visits are to ensure all surveillance cameras and panic buttons are in full working order. Raymon signs a logbook at every site to confirm all systems are operational.
It is not long before another home alarm is triggered. On arrival, Raymon first assesses the situation before calling for backup. Within three minutes of requesting support, another armed response officer arrives. Together they patrol the area in a systematic fashion, before declaring the site safe.
We then linked up with fellow SB Security team members and administer a stand-off in the Northwold area, before they continue their patrols of the area. Raymon informs me that constant visibility and vigilance are the key components to ensuring the safety of the community.
While conducting our stand-off we are notified that another alarm has been triggered at a business park in a nearby area. We turn on our sirens and dashed through traffic to arrive at the premises. On arrival, we are joined by a fellow SB Security armed response officer, responding to the same alarm. They are informed by the business owner that it was a blunder on their side and that they mistakenly triggered the panic button.
Later, we return to the SB Security offices to conclude an eventful day. I definitely think after the ride along with Raymon, I have a newfound appreciation for the courage and determination shown by the SB Security team on a daily basis. I’m incredibly grateful to SB Security for allowing me to participate and be a part of this amazing experience. “
